Fr. John Kochurov (also spelled Kochuroff) was priest at Holy Trinity just before and after the turn of the 20th century. He was instrumental in the construction of the Holy Trinity Cathedral building, and served as a missionary not just to the Chicago area but to Orthodox Christians in many far-flung locales in the United States. In 1907, he returned to Russia, and, in October 1917, was the first priest murdered in the Bolshevik Revolution.
